Toys for Tots! (A different kind of Giveaway)

December 20, 2010

First, put on that Nat King Cole standard, “Toys for Tots” on while you read this… (Click the link and be sure your speakers are on)

This week I’m taking the adorables to each pick out a toy to donate to Toys for Tots.

I thought how nice it would be if we all made a collective effort to donate something to those adorables who might not have much to open Christmas morning.

So bring a *New*, unwrapped toy to your local Toys for Tots drop-off center and we will have one heck of a giveaway on our hands!

Find where to drop off toys here in your local area. Toys R Us and Babies R Us also have boxes at all of their stores nationwide.

Question for you: I have been driving around in vain with my kiddo’s used toys in the back of my minivan trying to find a place that will accept them.

Goodwill?  No.

Our local Neighbor to Neighbor?  No.

Who accepts used toys anymore?

But back to Toys for Tots: Be sure to leave a comment if you have dropped a toy for Toys for Tots, or have plans to!  Let’s see how much good we can do together!

Love to all of you.

We haven’t done Toys for Tots, but we did two Salvation Army stockings earlier in the month!
(And Goodwill won’t take used toys? Why ever not? I have a room full that I need to sort with a heavy hand…)

Great idea! There has to be a place for used toys. We need to work on this!

You could try a local YMCA or homeless/women’s shelter as a place to donate toys. They’d go to a deserving family there.

There are some Thrift Store/Consignment Stores that accept used toys in “decent” condition, have you looked into this?

DONATION IDEAS. In my area, I have had success donating toys (preschool and under) to a teen mom mentoring program. As moms attend activities, they earn money to buy stuff that is donated. Check with your state social services, as I’m sure Foster parents would be appreciative of donated toys. Local shelters. Not sure – but Ronald McDonald houses might.

Love the Toys for Tots! I took my son to Toys R Us also to pick out a toy to donate! Such a great feeling to know that “one” toy will make such a difference in a child’s life. We do it every year! I wish we could do more but as for a lot of people this had been a tough year! As for the toys… I have always donated outgrown toys, etc. to my church or to other moms in my MOPS group. I have also been very successful with garage sales and posting on craigslist. If you don’t want to “sell” them you can post your items as “free” on craigslist and then someone in need can contact you? Just a few ideas!

Check with your local school district to see if they can accept the toys. They may be able to use them for preschool or the elementary school classrooms. The school counselor may have other suggestions as well.
