Snowflakes: Outside Beauty, Inside Fun
January 9, 2014written by Cathy Baker, mom of two sweet tweens, who have been super happy about all their ‘snow days’!
I live in Southern Missouri — those in Arkansas consider themselves ‘southern’ and I could be there in an hour. Well if my roads weren’t ice covered, I could.
We have already seen so much winter! It’s a bit crazy for here. We’ve already had eight ‘snow days’ from school (last year our first ‘snow day’ wasn’t til end of February, and we are on day 20 of Christmas break!) It seems a lot of the country is experiencing a whole lot of winter weather…and, it is winter, so I really shouldn’t complain or be surprised, right?
So here’s to pausing and celebrating the beauty of the snowflake today! And inspiring you with a few indoor snowflake activities to enjoy! 🙂
Do yourself a favor and do a quick search (google, pinterest, flickr) for ‘macro snowflakes’ — these tiny white flakes are so intricate and beautiful!!
Such beauty when all the snowflakes stick together! (Found on pinterest, source unknown.)
And without the snowflakes, we’d miss the chance to smile at cuteness like this!
And now for some inside fun inspired by snowflakes…
Who knew popsicle sticks could be so lovely? We made these giant snowflakes for my husband’s cubicle. (I’d show you how ours turned out, but I can’t seem to upload them this morning! #techproblems)
Snowflake Art with White Crayons and Water Colors.
And you can make these unique snowflakes with borax and a pipe cleaner.
And don’t forget to bring snow inside for some fun! Here are a few ideas for playing with actual snow inside…
- Love how this preschool brought snow inside and painted it with watercolors.
- Fill your kitchen sink with snow, and they can build mini snowman. Get out your measuring cups and plastic bowls. Don’t forget mittens!
- Get out toy bulldozers and dump trucks and move snow around! In bathtub maybe?
- Maybe barbie or lego people want to play in the snow?
May you find joy in the snowflake today!
