Rocky Mountain Ranch High
August 3, 2010Huge surprise for The Running Man took place last week…
About a year ago, the wives of all the Running Man’s college roommates and I put our heads together and planned a surprise trip…
… to the Tarryall River Ranch in Colorado…
… with 8 college friends and all of their families…
… for a total of 27 people.
So last Wednesday morning, the Running Man finally learned of our plans and he got a little teary.
Holy Moly was it the time of our lives.
We visited here…
with all of these wonderful friends who traveled from all over the country
(We are missing 6 people here who arrived later that night – it’s really NOT easy to amass 27 people for 1 photo.)
The roommates… that’s the Running Man in the blue shirt.
And here are we wives atop Lizard Rock – the men were off white water rafting. That’s me in the straw hat in the back (we shorties got the rock for extra height).
This was the first time several of us had met. It’s been a really long time since the crew had gotten together.
But as much fun as we adults had, NO ONE enjoyed the ranch and all it had to offer as much as the adorables in our group:
Here they are waiting for their horses,
Running about carefree,
Enjoying the songs of the cowboy crooner,
Hayriding,
And spending loads of time atop a real live horse.
Speaking of horses,
we spent a lot of time on our own horses. I hadn’t ridden a horse since the ripe old age of 7, and I LOVED it.
Oh, I’m hooked.
On Colorado, on friendship, on the great outdoors, on this ranch.
So happy 40th birthday to all the roommates and the Running Man (just 7 months early)!
And no worries, I’ll share more about the ranch tomorrow.
Have a great day y’all!

on August 4, 2010 8:16 amHow did you manage the surprise and time off of work? Did you make up a Plan B – or do the, “take the time off of work,, trust me” storyline?

on August 4, 2010 9:29 amMy family lives in Denver so he thought we were just spending the whole time there. When I started to get really excited I did let him know we were doing something really special. I shipped his cowboy boots and luckily, he never noticed they were gone.

on August 5, 2010 10:39 amGreat pictures Heidi! We had so much fun and keep talking about it everyday. It had a big impact on our kids’ confidence to ride their “own” horse, especially the rodeo at the end. Miss this place and miss you guys already. We want to go back!
