The Virginian
April 22, 2011Happy Earth Day to you!
And….
A happy, happy Home Tour Friday to you!
Today we head to Albemarle County, Virginia to see an outstanding stone and cedar-shake home…
Set on 25 acres of rural landscape overlooking a pond and an expansive meadow, this home was designed to “create a private landscape that emphasized her respect for the environment and stewardship of the land.”
And in celebration of Earth Day, we chose a green home for today. This home uses a geothermal field for heating and collects and recycles its rainwater for irrigation.
The gardens! Walking paths knit this landscape together, encouraging the homeowner and guests to meander and enjoy the vistas.
Moving inside…
Remarkable!
Simple, yet stunning.
The kitchen continues the elegant simplicity of the home. Notice how few upper cabinets there are and the resulting brightness from all those windows.
Master bedroom with a gorgeous reading area.
I imagine this is a very favorite space with guests.
The home is actually surrounded by various outbuildings which create little garden rooms between them…
and the most magnificent guest cottage.
Many thanks to Wolf Ackerman Design for this stunning home tour.

This home was also featured in the new book, Nice House by Samuel G. White. If you are a Home Tour Friday lover, you will pour over this book!
