Mountain Play-Away
October 22, 2010A very Happy Home Tour Friday to you!
I have to say, we’re in for such a treat today. Recently, I asked around for a home built specifically with adorables in mind.
Wait until you see the results of this query:
Bubba and Pa, aka Carolyn and Richard, have built a home for FUN for their 5 children and 9 grandchildren.
The home, built in 2005-6, is located on 10 acres in the Catoctin Mountains just northwest of Frederick, Maryland.
The house is 50 miles from the White House and 10 miles from Camp David, thus the whoosh of the President’s helicopters are often heard. Hellooooo Mr. President!
This place is just awesome!
Love the small dining tables in groups! So much more inviting than a mega-table.
And look what having a big shared space draws together:
A big, happy family!
These are some lucky adorables, I’m telling you…
playhouses,
These adorables are using the Ham Radios to talk with other adorables and adults from all over the world.
And if the indoors didn’t provide enough, the real treasures are outside:
These adorables were able to participate when the 120-foot radio tower was installed.
Cranes, diggers, workmen – oh MY!
hoops,
trampoline,
motorized vehicles,
a huge jungle gym,
a great deck for gathering,
and one heck of a playhouse!
Can you blame this bear for wanting to join the fun??
What I cannot get over is the brilliance of these people:
“If you build it,
(and in this case build it exceedingly well),
they will come.”
Have a great weekend!

We forgot to mention that the primary design element was to have room for 22 of us to sit at a single table for Thanksgiving. We couldn’t do it with just one table. Jo Bowersox of JB Interiors came up with the idea of two tables for everyday. For some holidays, we add 2 leaves in each table and place them end to end to make room for everyone.
When it rains the little ones retreat to the spacious lower level to enjoy the home theater, TV. video games, movies, air hockey, another playhouse, and ping pong. And lots and lots of balls. We pray for sunny days when they’re all here.

on October 22, 2010 12:53 pmLove the idea of the two tables – and even more now that I know they can be expanded and put end-to-end, too! And, as kid-friendly as it is, it looks awfully nice for grown-ups, too!
