Hobbit House
February 4, 2011Just in case you’ve seen everything, well, I bet you haven’t seen this.
An avid collector of J.R.R. Tolkien books, manuscripts and artifacts built his own Hobbit habitat.
And it is nothing less than stellar.
This “cottage” displays and archives the owner’s valuable collection in an environment that will protect the material while providing a quiet sanctuary for solitude and contemplation.
What makes this little cottage work is the details – could actual Hobbits have laid the stones for these walls themselves?
Details, details, details. And oh would I love to visit!
This is a custom “butterfly window”. I love the hardware detail here. These are also hand-made clay roof tiles. Amazing!
This 54” diameter Spanish cedar door with hand-forged single pivot hinge is nothing short of marvelous. The vaulted ceilings, fireplace – it’s just magic.
Can you believe this exists in someone’s backyard? I can’t get over it!
Many thanks to Archer & Buchanan Architects of West Chester, PA for this specatular hobbit tour.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Great Valentine’s Giveaway coming Monday and the winner of the Cisco Valet Wireless Router announced tomorrow – get in on it if you haven’t already!
