Get Your GoGo News On…

My brother sent me an article recently about GoGoNews.com and I read with great interest about this news source geared specifically to kids.
GoGoNews.com was developed by a mother of two that realized the need for a clear, appropriate and educational news source for kids. Founder and CEO Golnar Khosrowshahi explains: “I started GoGoNews.com in 2006 for my twin daughters, who were four at the time. They had seen a newspaper cover with a devastating photograph of a little girl after an earthquake in Pakistan. Rather than ignoring my daughters’ ensuing questions and finding them an alternative distraction, I explained earthquakes and the types of damage they can cause. The interest, emotions and discussion that followed inspired me to create a daily newsletter for my girls.”
Here is a great summary about GoGoNews.com from their website:
“GoGoNews.com is a news website for kids that informs young readers of current global events, while simultaneously protecting them from the harsh realities of today’s world. GoGoNews culls current headlines from mainstream media, and delivers filtered content in a user-friendly format for its 7-13 year old audience.
Children can seek information about global events, from the earthquake in Japan to presidential campaign nominations, as well as fun facts about historic people, places and events, puzzles, editorial picks and environmental lessons.
The site, which unlike other similarly branded news sources geared for children, is updated 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing fresh and relevant content that will encourage conversation and evoke emotion among young people and their peers.”
Our boys both tend toward the worrier end of the emotional spectrum and I know that even as they mature, it will be important for us to present newsworthy events carefully to them. GoGoNews.com has some great tips for adults on their site about sharing news with kids. I am so glad to know about this, I think it will be a very valuable tool for our family.

on June 7, 2011 12:03 pmThis is an awesome site. My son’s always asking my husband to show him things “on the internet,” so I think this site is going to become the default for that request.
