Frank Lloyd Wright House Walk!
June 3, 2011Written by Contributing Writer, Sarah Farthing
I had the fantastic experience in May of going on the Wright Plus House Walk in Oak Park, IL. My husband and I went with some dear friends of ours and had an absolutely wonderful time. It is exactly what the name implies, a walking tour of a select group of homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in addition to homes by other prominent architects of his time.
The Beachy House
Each house on the tour is assigned researchers that thoroughly investigate the history and stories behind each home. As you tour the residences room by room, tour volunteers share and explain historical and anecdotal details about the space you’re in. This tour is such a uniquely enjoyable experience that I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in residential architecture in general! The preservation efforts are astounding and the attention to detail on every aspect of the tour from start to finish is impressive.
The Heurtley House on the tour this year was stunning:

The Wright Plus tour helps support the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust, which proudly offers this description:
“Wright Plus is a festive day, combining an architectural immersion with a chance to meet visitors from around the world, all in the one-of-a kind setting of the Frank Lloyd Wright Historic District of Oak Park.”
You can learn more about the Wright Plus House Walk by visiting www.gowright.org and clicking on the Wright Plus link. Tickets are on sale now for the Wright Plus 2012 on May 19th next year!
It also happens to be a perfect time to visit the gorgeous city of Chicago…
Are you a Frank Lloyd Wright fan?
Have a wonderful weekend!

on June 3, 2011 8:48 amWe took my parents on the regular Frank Lloyd Wright home tour a few years ago and it was fabulous. The architecture is amazing. My Mom wants to come back and go on the special home tour in the future. And what are the chances it coincides with her granddaughter’s first birthday next year 🙂
