MVW: The Staycation

If the beach is not in your vacation plans…
I think I’m late to the game on this as most of you have probably already had your spring break weeks. Ours is still 2 weeks away. But this is a really good idea when you’re not traveling during breaks, so pack it away for later…
Way back when I was teaching 2nd grade in Colorado, I had a student Katie, who came from this wonderful family. (Here’s a reality check: Katie’s in college now – gasp!). When spring break rolled around, Katie’s family decided not to travel. Instead, they created their Family Fun Box: they brainstormed as a family 7 really fun things to do within an hour of Colorado Springs and put them into the box.
Each morning, they picked out their activity for that day and went about their fun. Their father was working hard, but managed to escape away to meet them for lunch or dinner.
She had the best week and had so many things to share with our class when she returned.
This would also work well for boring weekend days where you need fresh inspiration, a “Boring Day Box”. How much fun would it be for the adorables to pick their activity for the day?
I’m looking forward to when the adorables are older we can term this “Forced Family Fun” (or FFF), as we had in our family in my teens. It was a great way to poke fun at ourselves, yet still all be together for what our parents had in store for us. Despite all of our protests, we had a great time.
What are your ideas for a “Staycation”?
