Driving South…
November 12, 2009If 4 roundtrip roadtrips from Connecticut to Michigan weren’t enough for us this summer, we decided to tackle a big daddy this week:
I-95 from Connecticut south to Florida.
Meaning roughly 25 hours of fun family togetherness in the minivan.
I’m sure you really read that as 25 hours of Backyardigans, Toy Story, Cinderella, and many others (but heavy on the Backyardigans).
So we packed up the minivan (I really need a nickname for this – help please!)
Double-jogger, Running Man’s bike, random single stroller, about 4 suitcases, 2 duffles for the quick one-nighters, the pack-n-play, and enough food to keep the adorables continuously stuffed.
Along the way, we visited many of these:
Hello, my friend. I’m a big fan of the Southwest Chicken salad. I’ve eaten 5 of them in the last 4 days.
Incidentally in front of this particular Mickey D’s, the Haagen-Dazs truck rolled up and the darling driver handed us a box of ice cream sandwiches, and that made me love North Carolina even more. We inhaled all 6 of them right there on the spot.
We’re also in favor of the $99-and under hotels for our short stops. It’s a little game the Running Man and I play.
This Best Western in Pooler, Georgia gave us a suite and breakfast (with those yummy waffles where you pour the batter) for $65/night. I was pretty impressed. How come the fancy places (i.e. Hilton, Ritz, Four Seasons, etc) make you pay for breakfast and your wireless internet? I’ll never understand.
And 3 days later, we found ourselves in Disney World! (More on that later.)
I’m just not thinking about the return trip…

on November 12, 2009 9:53 amYeah, this is “forced family fun” at it’s best. I’m going to have to check out the Comfort Suites. And…..what could be better than the Haagen-daz truck!!!! Give that man a BIG hug!!!
