Beyond Fun (Giveaway)

January 11, 2010

With winter fast upon us (it’s wicked chilly here), the adorables are no doubt spending much more time inside.  Here are 2 fun and educational games from Beyond Learning for your emerging readers to sneak some extra learning in where they won’t even notice:

1) Pick-Up Words

(Sorry about this photo: I had to turn my flash off so I didn’t get any glare, but it blurred the photo a bit.)

This is a super-cute variation of the classic game, Pick-Up Sticks.  Each of the 30 sticks has a basic sight word printed on it  – see, which, so, if, who, how, at, etc.  The more you play, the more these words will be easily recognized by your adorable.

2. Word Chase

Word Chase is a favorite around here, even often above Candy Land where we actually play for candy.  I can’t give higher praise than this, obviously.  If you compete with candy and win, well, that’s saying A LOT.  Seriously, my elder adorable just loves it.

Isn’t the gameboard beautiful and happy?  Players draw sight word cards from the stack and move around the gameboard to collect their words.  It’s a great way to practice sight word recognition.

Giveaway
Two winners will each win one game just by leaving a comment by Friday, January 15th.  Winners will be drawn using Random.org on Saturday the 16th.  Get an extra entry by emailing 5 of your friends about The Good Stuff Guide or mentioning this giveaway on Twitter or Facebook.  Good Luck to you and Happy Monday!

Also, Beyond Learning has graciously extended a coupon code for saving 10% on any purchase at BeyondLearning.com using coupon code GSG.  They also have a number game that looks like great fun and is worth a look.

Both of these look like great games, but I especially like the Pick Up Words. I think the sticks look pretty, too.
