Ahoy there matey! Pirate books rock.
June 24, 2009On the heels of our raucous good time at the Pirate Festival, we’ve been readin’ up on becomin’ pirates roun’ these parts. Here’s some of our faves:
1) How I Became A Pirate
Melinda Long created a great kid in Jeremy Jacob and David Shannon made him feel so familiar. It’s a winner folks! Click here:

2. Pirates Don’t Change Diapers
Jeremy Jacob is back and just as lovable as before. Very cute and enjoyable.

3. Pirate Pete’s Giant Adventure
This is a cute version of the age-old tale of outsmarting a giant. It has great pirate-speak and is a hit with the adorables.

4. Shiver Me Letters
I love to insert our alphabet practice into subjects they enjoy, and this is a great book where the adorables get to seek out the letters in different pirate-related ways.

5. A Pirate’s Night Before Christmas
This is my FAVORITE! And it’s not just for Christmas. The rhythm is pretty remarkable, really. And it includes a Pirate glossary for us landlubbers.

6. Obadiah The Bold
A great book that explains that maybe pirating wasn’t the best, most noble choice of careers. Historic tales about Quakers on the island of Nantucket.

on August 23, 2009 10:00 amJeremy Jacob and his beloved pirate friends are a hit at the Murray house. We have both of Melanie Long’s books and I think I have more fun reading them than my kids do listening. I will have to look into your other suggestions!
