Accidental Roadtrip
September 26, 2009Well, someone in our house (we won’t name names) forgot to book the flights for this weekend’s trip to Michigan so we had the **opportunity** to drive (lucky, lucky us).
Since we’ve traveled I-80 through New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Ohio 4 times so far this summer, we decided we needed a new route. So we chose a northern highway through New York to Niagara Falls and on across Canada.
It adds a couple hours, but worth the wails of “How much longer Mom?” when you see those beautiful falls.
Here’s the spray coming up as you make your approach:
It is going to be big!
And it is…
Beautiful!
These photos of the falls were taken from the Canadian side after we had passed the stern eye of the Border Patrol. The U.S. side is better for feeling the noise, spray and immensity of the falls; the Canadian is better for photos.
And the Canadian side has a kitschy town that is fun.
But we needed to get to Michigan, so we were off.
Can you believe we passed through Canada and didn’t stop at one Tim Horton’s? (They’re a donut chain that is dotted across Canada similar to the magnitude of McDonald’s here in the states). Sacrilege!
