A Little Bit of Learning…

January 27, 2011

Christmas at our house was VERY minimal this year.  The adorables get to open and test toys for you all throughout the year (it’s a hard job, but someone has to do it) and we needed very little around here.

So I headed out to Teacher-type stores and bought educational toys.

Now before you call Social Services on me, here’s the thing – the adorables LOVED them.

So here they are in no particular order:

1) MATCH ME CARDS NUMBERS 0-25 ($4.99)

For my beginning reader, I ask him to sound out the word and match it to the number.  For my little guy, I read him the number and ask him to find the numerical card.

My 5-year-old gets this out all the time, so for $5, I think it’s a hit.

2) Place Value Activity Kit ($29.95) from Lakeshore Learning (a favorite store of mine).

Yes, really.  This is a HUGE hit.  I had to buy the extra set of Place Value Blocks because my younger adorable wanted in on the action.

This is a big white board and the adorables love writing numbers and then making them with the blocks.

Voila!  That’s 2, 987.

3.  Fishing for Phonics ($39.95) also from Lakeshore.

My younger adorable loves to fish, so he might as well be fishin’ for letters.

There are four laminated cards with pictures on them.  Little Man matches his catch to the word on his card.

The cards are 2- sided, so I have my older adorable use the side without words to add a little challenge.

What educational games are your adorables excited about?

Have a great day!!

Don’t worry that’s all our dudes got too!
We found this neat little company called Discovery Toys and the favorites were:
*Motor Works (mini workable screwdrivers and vehicles you can actually take apart and put back together- even my 18 month thought this was great!)
*Busy Bugs (pre-math, patterns, sorting, etc)
*The Musical Life of Gustav Mole- it’s precious “Book on tape” (CD) learning all about orchestra instruments- something my four year old is suddenly into.

Thanks for the heads up! I’ll look for these at Toy Fair too. 🙂
