Miracles

I have found miracles in “million dollar parking spots” as I call them with my children, or getting to a yoga class when it didn’t seem possible to get to a yoga class, or my sons soccer tournament being cancelled saving us both from driving to Fort Dix, NJ and being in the cold rain and snow for hours, or a friend who offers a ride both ways to the museum, or the parade of events and kindness, and ‘it can’t be a coincidences’ that flow into your life by a loving and giving source. I have found miracles in friendship, true and deep friendships with women who are always there, always ready with whatever you need, whenever you need it. Who call when you are picking the phone to call them, and you exclaim as you answer, I was just about to call you! I have found miracles in forgiveness and mercy, in starting over, even laughter.

I have found miracles to be quiet like a whisper, like a prayer. Hidden so you seek them and search for them like treasures buried deep under the surface of the water in a forgotten chest. You must be still to see the hand of God trace a pink sunset across the sky, or raise the grace-filled dawn when the house is quiet and all the lights on the street out, except for the one that welcomes the sun to greet the new day.

And in a world of selfies, and look at me, vanity, and boasting, where there is no end to more is more, maybe the miracle is a heart finding humbleness and kindness, of knowing simplicity and truth. And understanding that all the world offers doesn’t have to be sought, or bought, but can be chosen through eyes that know how to see.
