My daughter’s *brilliant* idea! Can your child use this?
January 15, 2015written by Cathy Baker, mom of two sweet middle schoolers, lovin’ life in Missouri Ozarks
I often joke that my youngest daughter would seriously forget her head if it wasn’t attached. She is a carefree, delightful child who reminds me to live in the moment and love life, and I love her, her absolute joy for living, and her quirks like crazy!!
But seriously, a couple of years ago she came out to breakfast and I was like, where are your pants? And she was like, “oh, yah, I forgot them!” And another time, I told her she needed to wipe the chocolate off her face, she was like, “how did I get chocolate on my face?” (totally serious and clueless, despite the fact she finished eating a chocolate chip cookie less than 5 minutes before!)
In elementary school, her desk was THAT desk, the messy one that had stuff falling out of it. I would get her Christmas papers either at Spring Break or at the end of the school year. She’s so busy enjoying life in the moment, she has trouble staying organized and remembering things.
So when she shifted to middle school this year, this momma was a bit nervous as to how she would remember it all!
But she has come up with a **BRILLIANT** plan, and it’s working great!! This is the absolute BEST use of her ipod EVER! She has decided to set an alarm for everything…
In the morning she has an alarm to wake up. Then she has an alarm to get up. Then she has an alarm 1 minute before we go out the door to remind her to all her stuff.
On Tuesdays, she has an alarm to fill out her required weekly bookmark. NOW, it says! Later that evening, she has a reminder to get her bookmark signed. Because seriously, she needs the second reminder. On Thursdays she has a reminder to get her planner signed.
And on Saturdays, she even reminds herself to get dressed!
Here’s a snapshot of some of her alarms…
I love that she has figured this out on her own, I think it is a life-long tool she will use! And I love that I don’t have to nag/reminder her about all this stuff all the time, because she is taking responsibility for it! It’s a win/win for us all!
Does anyone else have an adorable, brilliant child, who has trouble remembering things?

on January 16, 2015 11:58 amWhat a great tool your daughter has found for herself – it is one I use. I can totally relate to her – I often get caught up with what I am doing and forget basic things and so I have things like a M-F alarm to “pick kids up from school” (yeah, kind good to remember to get kids from school!) and “get kids ready for bed” alarm on school nights.
