Crayola Marker Recycling: Petition
June 26, 2012written by Cathy Baker, mom of two amazing girls, from Missouri
Honestly, I usually don’t pay attention to a lot of petition signing stuff – but this is one I definitely signed my name on! A group of students have started a petition to get Crayola to begin a recycling program for their markers. I know our family has just ‘thrown away’ our fair share of dried out Crayolas over the years, why didn’t I ever think of ‘recycling’ them?
Their petition says, Every year, Crayola makes about half a billion markers — enough markers to wrap around the earth more than three times! — and sells them all around the world. Millions of kids use and love Crayola products — including the students at Sun Valley School, where I volunteer. That’s why we’re asking Crayola to make sure these markers don’t end up in our landfills, incinerators and oceans.
I think Crayola makes great products and I hope that down the road I see where they take action to recycle their products, as well! Click here, if you’d like to sign the petition too!
