Lakefront in Sparta, New Jersey
June 21, 2013For this week’s Home Tour Friday, I was set on finding a lakefront property at a *reasonable* price.
The finding of lakefront properties wasn’t that hard; finding the reasonable price was harder than it sounds.
I plugged these prerequisites in and scoured properties across the U.S.
I finally found a very unique waterfront community in Sparta, New Jersey. Lake Mohawk, the largest lake there, is a resort/vacation community about an hour west of New York City. It was developed in the 1920’s by damming the Wallkill River.
What sold me was this alpine-style downtown area overlooking the lake. I love the boardwalk and park areas for residents and visitors to enjoy the view and gain access.
Isn’t this gorgeous?
The home I chose was one of 15 or so dotted around Lake Mohawk.
This home, built by a builder for his family, has a great open floorplan and design elements for relaxed living.
I love an open kitchen/dining/great room concept. Any family would spend almost all their time right here, together.
While normally I think of living rooms as a waste of space, this has nice flow from the entry, with a wide enough door (and window) to connect it the great room beyond.
The master bedroom has vaulted ceilings, and deck space that overlooks the lake.
I really like these high-set windows, that let the light shine in, but keep eyes at bay. Notice the height of the lower windows as well – with the house set on a hill, there is plenty of privacy here.
Except from birds.
This hall bath was also nice.
Here is the view from the deck. You can see it’s not directly on the lake, but has tremendous views.
Beautiful!
This home is listed for $849,000 – see more on Zillow.
Reasonably priced? I’ll keep trying…
